Gantt chart software, compared

Choose a dedicated Gantt app if the timeline is the thing you build and share, a project suite if your team already works in one every day, a spreadsheet for a short plan that won’t change much, and a slide tool if the plan only needs presenting. In most suites the Gantt view needs a paid plan, typically $7 to $10.99 per user per month, and critical path usually sits a tier higher.

A note on bias: NeoGantt is our product, and it’s a dedicated Gantt tool. Facts about other products come from their own websites and help centres, listed at the bottom of this page. Prices and plans change, so check before you buy.

Four kinds of Gantt chart software

Most “best Gantt software” lists mix these together, though they solve different problems.
TeamGantt, GanttPRO, Instagantt, NeoGantt

Dedicated Gantt tools

The Gantt chart is the product. At one end sit full schedulers with dependencies, critical path and baselines (TeamGantt, GanttPRO, Instagantt); at the other, tools for drawing a timeline and sharing it. Choose by how much scheduling logic you need.

Project suites with a Gantt view

Tasks, boards, forms and reporting, with Gantt as one view of the same data. Worth it when the whole team works in the tool every day. Expect to pay per seat for the tier that has the Gantt view.
Excel, Google Sheets

Spreadsheets

Free if you already have them and fine for a short plan that won’t change much. The chart is coloured cells or a stacked bar chart, so every change means editing dates by hand.
Lucen Timeline (formerly Office Timeline), Preceden

Timeline and slide tools

For presenting a schedule to executives or clients. Output is slides or images, and the scheduling happens somewhere else.

Which plan includes the Gantt view in each suite

If you’re choosing a suite for its Gantt chart, check the tier as well as the price. US list prices per user per month, billed annually.

Where NeoGantt fits

NeoGantt is simple Gantt chart software, a dedicated Gantt tool at the light end. It has no dependencies, critical path, baselines, resources or integrations, so if you need a scheduler, the comparisons on this page point you to tools that are.

What it does is build a timeline fast (drag on the timeline to draw a task) and put it in front of people outside your team: a live share link that viewers open without signing up, your logo on shares and one-page PDFs, and a history of what changed between agreed plans. Durations count working days and skip your holidays. Teams pay a flat $99 a year for up to 5 people, and the free plan covers one person and five charts.
